Epidemiology and Prevention of Acute Respiratory Disease in Naval Recruits

Abstract
Results of trivalent (3, 4 and 7) adenovirus vaccine studies conducted in naval recruits at the Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois during 1962-1963 are presented and compared with previous studies. In the present study, adjuvant vaccines were not significantly better than aqueous preparations in magnitude of antibody response or in protection against adenovirus illness. Also, no difference was observed when vaccine was administered either by jet gun or syringe. The decreased protection afforded by vaccines during the later phases of the evaluation program may be attributed to deterioration of vaccine components.
