An Ignition System for Ultra Lean Mixtures

Abstract
A mechanical/electrical system for generating a highly turbulent "puff" of cornbusting gas is described. This system is shown to have properties comparable to plasma jet ignition when either is used in a combustion bomb. Specifically, the ignition delay and combustion times arc reduced in comparison to a standard spark ignition system. However, the main problems related to plasma jet ignition (i.e. high energy consumption and high electrode eros ibn) arc no longer drawbacks with the proposed system.
