ON THE TENSILE STRENGTH OF HEALING CUTANEOUS WOUNDS IN PREGNANT RATS

Abstract
Experimental skin wounds made in the backs of rats were studied for their tensile strength. Wounds made at the beginning and middle of pregnancy showed a higher tensile strength than in non-pregnant control animals. Wounds made towards the end of pregnancy showed the same tensile strength as wounds made in the control animals, while those made on the first day of the puerperium again showed a higher tensile strength. There was no suggestion that the healing of skin wounds is impaired during pregnancy.
