Abstract
Unilateral hybridization occurs among L. hirsutum lines and between these and lines of L. esculentum. The restriction of crosses follows an orderly pattern not previously found in the plant kingdom and not in accordance with present theories of the origin and evolution of self-incompatibility and self-fertility.Keywords
