Abstract
The comparative morphology of 26 spp. of Monogenea, representing the genera Actinocleidus (8). Cleidodiscus (6). Dactvlogyrus (2), Gyrodactylus (2). Haplocleidus (2), Octomacrum (1), and Urocleidus (5). which were recovered from 5 spp. of Centrarchidae, 1 of Ameiuridae and 1 of Cyprinidae, is given. The hosts from which these gill parasites were recovered were taken from a 12 acre impoundment on the University of Richmond campus. Synonyms and previously reported hosts and localities are given for each of the parasite species. One of the species discussed, Actinocleidus sigmoideus, was discovered among the material contained on a slide of cotypes of A. oculatus taken from the gills of Lepomis gibbosus from Cross Lake, New York. A. gibbosus (not in the present collection) was also found on these slides. This is a new locality record, for these species. In the comparative morphological study, certain hitherto unreported structures are described, some of the probable functions of these structures are suggested and the terminology of some organs (i.e., accessory pieces of Dactylogyrus aureus and Actinocleidus unguis is slightly modified.
