Abstract
An assay for tissue transamidinase activity was developed. The enzyme was inhibited by sulfhydryl inhibitors both in vivo and in vitro. Canavanine was 3 times as effective as arginine as an amidine donor in vitro. Kidneys from rats fed a protein-free diet for 12 days had only 24% the activity as kidneys from normal rats. The activity could be restored to normal by replacing the protein-free diet with a complete diet. Keywords
