Abstract
Using a method to identify norepinephrine within adrenal medullary cells, this material was quantitated in rats subjected to extreme cold as well as unilateral adrenalectomy. Following immersion of animals in an ice bath at 1[degree]C rectal temperatures were maintained at 18-23[degree] C for 1 hour. In this group of animals there was no statistical significance in the norepinephrine cells counted before and after cold. Another group utilized as anesthesia controls were subjected to unilateral adrenalectomy and were anesthetized for 1 hour. Following this stress there was likewise no alteration in the norepinephrine or total chromaffin reaction of the adrenal medulla. Keywords
