Abstract
The capture ratio of has been determined to be 0.103±0.003 in a high-pressure, multiwire proportional counter. This value is in excellent agreement with the theoretical value of 0.100. The average energy of the peak was found to be 273±6 ev. When a new value of 265±5 ev is obtained for the critical absorption energy of Cl by interpolation and the effect of the Auger process is considered, it is concluded that the energy to produce an ion pair in Ar at 0.2 kev is 0.98±0.04 times the value at 2.8 kev.
