Abstract
The small bowel of the cat is opacified after high intravenous doses of sodium diatrizoate and sodium diprotrizoate. Clinically, it is important to recognize that opacification of the small bowel may occur following intravenous urography in patients with renal insufficiency or after high dose angiography. An intravenous test for visualization of the small intestine probably would be a valuable aid in the diagnosis of diseases of the small bowel. Additional knowledge of the excretion mechanisms of the bowel is needed to provide a rational basis for the synthesis of a new contrast medium to be excretedpreferentially by this route. Keywords
