Abstract
An H2–VUV‐laser was used to generate metastable O2(b1Σg+) molecules in the photolysis of O2. The metastable molecules were monitored using the emission of their forbidden transition O2(b 1Σg+→X 3Σg−). From the decays of this emission rate constants for the quenching of O2(b 1Σg+) by H2, D2, N2, HCl, DCl, CH4, CD4, NH3, and ND3 were determined as a function of temperature. Significant isotope effects were observed for the activation energies. Keywords
