Abstract
Ascorbic and iso-ascorbic acids (D-arabo-ascorbic acid) show similar abilities to combine with KCN and phenol in aqueous solns. Ascorbic and iso-ascorbic acids are equally effective in detoxifying KCN, phenol and tetanus toxin, and in the conversion of folic acid into citrovorum factor. The antiscorbutic activity of ascorbic acid cannot be explained on the basis of the detoxifying activity of this substance. Keywords
