Abstract
The glucose reabsorptive system as evaluated by glucose Tm had considerable stability in the normal dog. Some depression was observed when the plasma glucose fell precipitously, but this was slight and inconstant. Adrenalin had no effect and excessive amts. of insulin were necessary to produce a significant depression and then it was not a constant phenomenon. Variations in the protein content of the diet did not produce any systematic change. The valid measurement of glucose Tm necessitated a constant plasma glucose of adequate absolute cone. In addition, the hydration of the animal must be insured. The reproducibility of glucose Tm recommended it as a dependable means for the quantitative characterization of proximal tubule reabsorption function. Contrary to the constancy of glucose Tm, the rate of glomerular filtration varied widely. Essentially all the glomeruli were functioning; variations in the filtration rate resulted from changes in the filtration pressure of all glomeruli, rather than in the number of active nephron.This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
