Abstract
The histomorphology of the principal fibers of the periodontium of the adult mouse was studied. The principal fibers of the molars were traced from the alveolus to the cementum without interruption in their continuity. After passing from the alveolar septum, the closely packed fibers became more loosely arranged; and the individual fibers took separate courses joining a few adjacent fibers to become attached to the cementum. No evidence of an intermediate plexus was seen. The principal fibers which were deeply embedded into the alveolar septum on the mesial aspect of the tooth were not deeply embedded on the distal aspect indicating that distal drifting was accomplished with little apparent change in the continuity of the principal fibers. The principal fibers may be continuous from the alveolar septum to the cementum in teeth of limited growth. Keywords
