Abstract
The only known male of Haemaphysalis aponommoides Warburton, which is here described, indicates that both sexes of this sp. differ significantly from H. inermis Birula in outline of the basis capituli. Females have additional diagnostic differences. H. aponommoides should be accorded full specific status (new combination). The subgenus Alloceraea Schulze, in which these 2 spp. are placed, is redefined and additional notes and remarks on the female of H. aponommoides are provided. H. nepalensis, described from the male and female, is closely related to H. punctata and shows characters between punctata and other spp. in the primitive subgenera Alloceraea and Allophysalis. Both H. aponommoides and H. nepalensis were taken in the Himalayas of Nepal at altitudes between 5000 and 10,000 feet, and are excellent indicators of stepwise evolution among haemaphysalids. Specimens of H. aponommoides from Formosa are also recorded. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
