Abstract
A sex pheromone component for the southern pine coneworm moth, Dioryctria amatella (Hulst), was identified as Z-11-hexadecenyl acetate (Z11–16:0Ac) and was attractive to male moths in loblolly pine, Pinus taeda L., seed orchards. Male moth catches in Pherocon 1C traps baited with a rubber septa loaded with 10, 100, 300, or 1,000 µg of Z11–16:0Ac were as good as or better than traps combining two live D. amatella females, Field tests in Alabama, Georgia, and Texas throughout the entire growing season showed that baits with 100 µg generally would be best for a monitoring trap. This publication has 12 references indexed in Scilit:
