Abstract
Among the ribosomal proteins of all K12 strains of E. coli there is a single protein that is electrophoretically different from its counterpart in all other coli strains. This protein is from the 30S subunit of the ribosome. By means of conjugation and transduction with phage P1, the locus governing the synthesis of this protein has been mapped and shown to be either identical with, or extremely close to, the streptomycin locus. Keywords
