Abstract
Laser excited vibrational overtone fluorescence measurements show an inverse temperature dependence for HF(v = 3, 4, 5) self-relaxation between 300 and 700 700 K. This temperature dependence reflects the dominance of long range forces in the energy transfer dynamics, and the data follow empirical correlations based on formation of transient complexes. Scaling of the relaxation rate with vibrational quantum number is a simple power law vn, with n being insensitive to temperature. Keywords
