Abstract
Ab initio pseudopotential calculations of a nine-layer Rh(001) film find the surface and first subsurface layers are ferromagnetic. The calculated surface energy lies within the range of experimental estimates and the discrepancy between LEED and an earlier calculation for the surface relaxation is greatly reduced. Keywords
