Abstract
Detns. of total creatinine of total and acid soluble phosphorus as well as of Ca and K were made. Striking loss of total creatinine was noted after the 5th hr. of exptl. infarction in dogs. Isolated and perfused rabbits'' hearts showed lowest total myocardial creatinine values both after infarction and if uninfarcted hearts were perfused to failure. All amino acids except alanine and glycocoll failed to maintain normal total creatinine values in isolated heart. Hearts from 374 patients dying without myocardial insufficiency showed total creatinine levels of 175.3 [plus or minus] 12.5 mg. %; the 127 patients with myocardial failure showed 125.5 [plus or minus] 25.4 mg. %. The inorganic phosphorus values, in the two groups were practically the same but lipoid phosphorus was significantly lowered in hearts that had failed. Potassium did not seem to change. Keywords
