Abstract
Work on the glycogen content of the heart is briefly reviewed. The following topics are then taken up in connection with the gaseous metabolism of the "cold blooded" heart: Composition of the perfusion fluid, oxygen utilization and its relation to work, R.Q., lactic acid production, anaerobic metabolism, effect of glucose in anoxemia, and the actions of iodoacetic acid, bromacetic acid and glutathione. For the mammalian heart these subjects are discussed: Utilization of glucose and of fat, R.Q., action of insulin on gaseous metabolism, and gaseous metabolism of the diabetic heart. Phosphoric acid metabolism, ammonia production and amino-acid utilization, and energy metabolism receive general treatment. This publication has 65 references indexed in Scilit:
