TOXIC HEPATIC NECROSIS (HEPATITIS) DUE TO ISONIAZID: REPORT OF A CASE WITH CIRRHOSIS AND DEATH DUE TO HEMORRHAGE FROM ESOPHAGEAL VARICES

Abstract
A 38 year old white woman with tuberculous osteomyelitis developed severe liver destruction as a result of prolonged therapy with isonicotinic acid hydrazide (INAH), clinically manifested by fever, jaundice and abnormal liver function tests. Hyposensitization to INAH was carried out without complications by means of graded subcutaneous and oral administration of the drug. The patient also had a febrile response to para-aminosalicylic acid.
