Abstract
For Pt. I see ibid. vol. 4, 2992 (1971). The 260 nm optical absorption band in irradiated MgF2 has been identified as the F band. The irradiation dose dependence, irradiation temperature dependence, optical bleaching behaviour and thermal annealing properties of this band and the EPR F centre were compared using the same samples for both the optical and EPR work. A close correlation of all the properties measured with both techniques established that in irradiated MgF2, the 260 nm band is indeed the F band with a oscillator strength of approximately one. Keywords
