Newcastle Disease Vaccination with the V4 Strain in Malawi: Laboratory and Field Studies

Abstract
A vaccine prepared from the V4 strain of Newcastle disease virus was tested under field conditions in village flocks in Africa. An epizootic of Newcastle disease occurred during the trial in 1 of the villages and killed unvaccinated, but not vaccinated, chickens. Representative virulent field isolates from Malawi were shown to be typical velogenic viscerotropic strains.
