Abstract
The nuclear electric quadrupole coupling constant of 59Co in a single crystal of the racemic Co(en)3Cl3·3H2O was determined to be 2.63 Mc/sec from the splitting of the 59Co nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum. The sign of the coupling constant is probably negative from considerations of the contribution of the lattice to the electric‐field gradient, assuming a point‐charge model, together with the very small distortion of the Co(en)33+ complex observed in x‐ray diffraction studies. Keywords
