Abstract
The mixing model for the breaking of symmetry has been used to obtain sum rules for the magnetic moments of the octet baryons in broken and . The contributions of the vector couplings are assumed to be dominant over those of the tensor couplings in the self-energy effects of the model. It is found that the sum rules obtained are consistent with the magnetic moments of symmetry (Coleman-Glashow relations plus ) modified by appropriate mass ratios only under very restrictive choice of values for the parameters that occur in our model.
