Abstract
Metabolism of s35-labeled 4-methyl-thiouracil and 4-carboxyl-thiouracil in the thyroid glands, pituitary glands and livers of cockerels was studied. In addition, percentages of nucleic acids in the thyroid glands were determined. The antithyroidal substances had no effect on percentages of nucleic acids or on the drying factor. There was less than 0.5% incorporation into nucleic acids in the thyroid. The major metabolic pathway appeared to be a rapid oxidation and a somewhat less rapid elimination of the formed sulfate. Oxidation was much smaller in the liver and pituitary gland, most of the substance remaining unaltered. Keywords
