ACUTE orchitis is an alarming and painful affliction. Its association with mumps was clearly described by Hippocrates1 more than four hundred years B.C.:[In an epidemic on the island of Thasus] Swellings appeared about the ears, in many on either side, and in the greatest number on both sides,... neither did any of them come to suppuration,...
