Abstract
By use of a continuous flow system E. histolytica has been grown free from admixture with other living organisms. The culture is furnished with a mixture of broth containing sodium thioglycollate and a filtrate of Trypanosoma cruzi freshly disrupted by repeated freezing and thawing. In the same culture vessel is maintained a separate system of a continuous culture of T. cruzi within a dialyzing membrane. E. histolytica was also maintained in continuous culture mixed with a continuous culture of T. cruzi for long periods with no need for attention. Doubling times and growth rates of the organisms are related to the dynamics of the flow systems. During developmental work small grain starches other than rice starch were prepared for use in growth of amebas and a micro method was developed for nitrogen determination. Keywords
