Abstract
Techniques of freezing the stomach briefly at -35 to- 30[degree]C by introduction of a balloon through which cooled ethanol is circulated and of measuring secretory capacity by the Shay pylorus-ligation or the Valberg-Witts histamine phenol red test-meal are described. A temperature of -10[degree] C for 5 min is necessary to produce achlorhydria. Maximum histamine stimulation tests showed that the achlorhydria persists at least 6 months in 70% of rats, and that secretion of pepsin is also inhibited. This publication has 24 references indexed in Scilit:
