Abstract
THE nature and pathogenesis of amyloidosis remain enigmatic despite a variety of suggested etiologic factors. Among those proposed is an alteration in the chemical composition and physical properties of the connective-tissue ground substance,1 which is also considered to be the basis of many of the connective-tissue disorders.2 Evidence of a causal relation beween the so-called "collagen diseases" and amyloidosis is supported by the frequent association of the latter with rheumatoid arthritis.3 The concurrence of two rare diseases, dermatomyositis and generalized amyloidosis, prompted this report. This association, to our knowledge, has not previously been reported, and suggests the possibility of a . . .Keywords
