Abstract
The gain of an atmospheric pressure CO2 laser amplifier was measured as a function of the input pulse duration for the first time using optical free‐induction decay pulses. It was found that the gain decreases rapidly for pulses shorter than 150 ps, in agreement with the gain bandwidth predictions. Keywords
