Proton and alpha particle impact transfer ionisation cross sections for He and Li

Abstract
A binary encounter method has been proposed for the calculation of cross sections for the transfer ionisation process by fast light nuclei incident on atomic targets. It has been assumed that the process proceeds via two successive encounters of the incident ion with the projectile resulting in ionisation of the target in the first encounter and capture of one of the bound electrons from the residual target in the second. The two processes have been supposed to be independent. The method has been used for calculations of transfer ionisation cross sections of H+ and He2+ incident on He and Li. Hartree-Fock velocity distributions for the bound electrons have been used for both the processes. Calculated cross sections have been found in reasonably good agreement with the recent experimental observations.
