Abstract
Using a model of two interpenetrating ion streams in a background of magnetically immobilized electrons, I obtain a density threshold for separation disruption that agrees with the values observed. The density threshold for disruption is far above that for instability production. The inference is that in ordinary operation a calutron is operating in an unstable mode, but this unstable level is tolerable. Keywords
