Abstract
The statistical properties of matrix elements which couple the collective (or shape) degrees of nuclear motion with the intrinsic degrees of freedom, are evaluated in the adiabatic representation. The results will be used in a future paper for the calculation of transport coefficients which describe the irreversible (dissipative) transfer of energy from the collective degrees of freedom to the intrinsic ones. As input we use a random-matrix model for the residual interaction, and salient properties of single-particle levels in nonspherical potentials. Keywords
