Abstract
When 2‐mercaptoethanol (2‐ME) is added to human mixed leukocyte cultures at the beginning of the culture period, only a very weak effect is seen. When 2‐ME is added after a few days' culture, a marked enhancement of cellular transformation occurs. 2‐ME can also enhance the effect of blastogenic factor (BF) containing media and it is possible that this effect depends on a stabilization or protection of BF preventing the break‐down of BF in cellular systems. Keywords
