Abstract
An agar diffusion technique for the assay of the lecithinase C (a toxin) from C. perfringens utilizing either human red cells or lecithovitellin as the substrate is described. The procedure offers a simple and reliable method of lecithinase determination, requires no complex instrumentation, the materials used are easily and inexpensively obtained, very little time is required to perform an assay, and only small amounts of test material are needed. The technique is very sensitive, and while slightly more variable than turbidimetric determination of lecithovitellin flocculation, it is as reliable as any of the other methods of lecithinase determination and much easier to carry out. Keywords
