Abstract
The total cross sections for excitation of optical lines in Ne and Ar by electrons are calculated in the single inelastic collision approximation of Glauber theory. Good agreement between theory and experiment is obtained. The results obtained are compared with those of PWBA and DWBA calculations. Keywords
