Abstract
The monopole -shell form factor is obtained as a function of energy loss and momentum transfer of a charged particle in the Bethe-Born approximation. A comparison is made with the total and Bang-Hansteen cross sections. It is concluded that the monopole Bang-Hansteen cross section accounts for approximately all the deflection effect of the nucleus on the projectile. A crude Coulomb correction formula is found to reproduce the same results as the Bang-Hansteen treatment.
