Abstract
The assay characteristics of and the effect of tannation on human pituitary luteinizing hormone (LH) were determined. The potency of human LH was 13 times that of the ovine LH standard, NIH-LH-S1, when determined in the ventral prostate weight (VPW) assay and 1.5 times NIH-LH-S1 when determined in the ovarian ascorbic acid depletion (OAAD) assay. The potency of human LH was increased 3.2-fold by tannation when measured in the VPW assay and decreased by half when measured in the OAAD assay. The value for the index of discrimination (VPW/OAAD) of the tannated LH was, therefore, 6.4. Confirmatory data were obtained by performing time studies after single injections of tannated or of untannated human LH; the duration of response of the ventral prostate was increased and the duration of the ascorbic acid depletion was decreased after injection of tannated human LH as compared with untannated LH.This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
