Abstract
We develop an effective-medium theory for nonlinear, ellipsoidal particles embedded in a host medium. Specifically, we treat spheroidal-shaped particles and give results for oriented and random configurations of the particles. We discuss metallic particles embedded in a linear dielectric medium and examine the enhancement of their nonlinear response at the surface-plasmon resonances. Keywords
