Abstract
Autopsy on 4 knees with osteo-arthrosis showed that the joint cavity is readily entered by the infra-patella approach. A control trial of 36 knees with osteo-arthrosis injected with hydrocortisone, by either the infra-patella or the medial approach, has shown that the clinical improvement obtained from the 2 approaches is virtually the same and is similar to that anticipated from a placebo response. Synovial fluid was obtained on 7 occasions from the medial approach, but none of these patients benefited clinically. The medial approach is better for obtaining joint fluid, but the joint is not entered or the drug fully injected by the infra-patella route. This publication has 10 references indexed in Scilit:
