Abstract
Upper and lower bounds on the quantum mechanical direct second virial coefficient are derived from theorems of Golden, of Thompson, and of Feynman and Hibbs. These bounds severely limit the magnitude of quantum effects for some proposed helium potential models. The Frisch and Helfand theorem on maxima in the second virial coefficient is discussed. Keywords
