Abstract
The effect of the vapor temperature on the nucleation of zinc from the vapor phase onto substrates of mica, lithium fluoride, and Pyrex glass was investigated with a double‐Knudsen‐cell technique. There was some effect of beam temperature on the critical supersaturation for nucleation on all three substrates. For the glass substrate the critical supersaturation was determined as a function of beam temperature and was found to agree well with earlier measurements by Hudson if the model of disk‐shaped nuclei is assumed. The results indicated that the thermal accommodation coefficient for zinc on Pyrex is aT=0.78 in the range 600°—800°K.Keywords
