Staphylococcus Saprophyticus: Role in Urinary Tract Infections in Men

Abstract
The role of S. saprophyticus in urinary tract infections in men was investigated. Of 9314 urine specimens cultured from men in a veterans hospital only 3 (2 patients) yielded S. saprophyticus. Thus, S. saprophyticus rarely causes infection in older men and should not be sought routinely by microbiology laboratories in hospitals serving men primarily.
