Abstract
A case of herpes zoster involving the fifth, seventh, ninth and tenth cranial nerves, as well as the second and third cervical sensory roots or ganglia, is described. The herpetic eruption affected all of the left half of the tongue and palate as well as the external auditory meatus. Complete anaesthesia of all three divisions of the left trigeminal nerve and of the second and third cervical dematomes on the left side, and a severe left facial palsy of lower motor neurone type preceded the appearance of the herpetic vesicles. Facial sensation recovered within five months, but an almost complete facial palsy was still evident 11 months after the onset of this illness. Keywords
