Abstract
Summary: The medical libraries in the Postgraduate Medical Education Centres which are now being built in many regions are generally of a simple pattern based on traditional library practices. In view of the recent advances in information science it is suggested that a more radical approach should be made to the design of medical library and information centres. The basic requirements for medical information in relation to education and medical practice are discussed together with recommendations for a regional and national network for the co-ordination of information-handling in the field of the health sciences.
