Abstract
Globin and heme, obtained by splitting horse Hb with acid, could be recoupled to form a Hb that has the same molecular wt. (69,000) as native Hb, the same pH-stability diagram and the same molecular shape, as shown by ultracentrifuge expts. Electrophoretic expts. have, in some instances, given reason to doubt the identity of native and recoupled Hb. Native globin has a mol. wt. about half that of Hb. Fric-tional ratios of the molecules indicate that the splitting probably took place along the long axis of the Hb molecule.
