Abstract
The multiplication of the RH, S7, and M7741 strains of toxoplasma was studied in monkey-kidney tissue cultures. It was found that a single host cell could be invaded by many organisms. Toxoplasmas multiply in stages similar to those observed for bacteria and viruses. A resting phase occurs immediately after infection followed by an exponential phase of growth. This organism may, in serving as a model, provide useful information in the study of other less easily studied intracellular organisms such as viruses. Keywords
