Abstract
The antibody and [mouse] T[thymus-derived]-lymphocyte proliferative immune responses to poly(Glu53Lys36Phe11)n(GL.PHI.) are under the control of 2 major histocompatibility-linked immune response (Ir) genes. One gene, termed Ir-GL.PHI.-.alpha., was mapped to the I-C or I-E subregion of the major histocompatibility complex; the other, termed Ir-GL.PHI.-.beta., was mapped to the I-A subregion. The effect of anti-I-region-associated (Ia) antisera on the T-lymphocyte proliferative response to GL.PHI. was studied. Antibodies directed against Ia antigens coded for by genes in the I-A or I-C subregion inhibited the proliferative response to GL.PHI.. A function mediated by 2 Ir gene products can be blocked by anti-Ia antisera directed against either one, and thus, both products are probably expressed on the cell surface.Keywords
