THE EFFECT OF QUANTITATIVE REDUCTION OF RENAL BLOOD FLOW UPON THE PREGNANT RABBIT

Abstract
Quantitative degrees of renal ischemia were produced by applying clamps of known diam. to the previously measured aortae in pregnant and non-pregnant rabbits. In the pregnant animals marked ischemia produced a fall in blood pressure, N retention in the blood, and albuminuria with hematuria, while slight reduction was associated with hypertension and albuminuria without N retention. Only hypertension was noted in non-pregnant animals and in those in which delivery or resorption occurred. Uric acid elevation and hemoconc. were not noted. The similarity to "toxemia of pregnancy" in the human is discussed.
